Main Sequence launches into Early Access on Steam on November 12, Tumbling Dumpling Studio has announced. The first-person space-sim factory builder has players design spaceships, build space stations and automate production as they grow from a single mining ship into an interstellar industrial empire. Ahead of launch, the studio also updated the free demo for Steam Next Fest, adding co-op multiplayer.

Early Access on November 12

The release date was announced on October 1, after the game's latest playtest. The developers thanked playtesters for their feedback and said key launch details, including the price and launch time, will follow in the near future. Players who missed the playtest can try the demo, and the studio shared a showcase of community builds from the playtest.

What's New in the Next Fest Demo

The updated demo brings in the new world generation and tech tree first tested in September's playtest, along with quality of life features, bug fixes and other improvements. Highlights include:

  • Co-op multiplayer: now available in the demo, with many multiplayer improvements and optimizations
  • Electromagnetic Science research: a new automation challenge for players who reached the end of the previous demo content
  • New equipment and places to explore
  • New ship and station modules: including the Shield Generator Mk. 1, which the developers say adds a new dimension to combat and ship design

Building a Space Empire

Main Sequence starts players in a small mining ship in a resource-rich asteroid belt. From there, they refine resources, build space stations with onboard factories connected by conveyor belts, and set up automated supply routes between stations. Every ship and station is designed module by module, from cargo capacity to reactor placement and weapons. Designs can be saved, shared with friends or built freely in creative mode.

All that industrial activity wakes an ancient alien defense network, so players need a fleet to protect their operations as they expand into procedurally generated star systems with wrecks, new resources, black holes and neutron stars. The game can be played solo or in co-op, where each player captains their own ship.
