The popular factory automation and tower defense title, Mindustry, has rolled out Build 156 as a beta update, bringing a host of enhancements and critical bug fixes. This latest iteration focuses on improving both gameplay mechanics and the overall user experience, addressing several long-standing issues and introducing creative new elements for players.
New Features Enhance Gameplay
Build 156 introduces several notable additions that expand player capabilities and interaction. A significant update is the new 3x3 canvas block, offering expanded possibilities for visual designs and functional displays within bases. Players can now also utilize new import and export options for canvas images, streamlining content creation and sharing.
Multiplayer interactions see improvements with the addition of sync for other player's build queues, making collaborative construction more transparent. For tactical control, units can now be assigned a "hold position" stance for repair and rebuild operations, providing greater strategic depth. A 'ping location' key, defaulting to 'P', allows for quicker communication and coordination across maps.
Further additions include:
- A unit factory activation delay rule, now enabled by default in the Serpulo campaign.
- Variant labels for plugins that use an ID, designed to prevent visual flickering.
- The introduction of a new Littoral Shipyard sector.
- An additional basic gameplay tutorial, integrated into the Frozen Forest area to assist new players.
Quality of Life and Technical Improvements
The beta update also implements crucial quality of life changes and addresses various technical issues. Filtering options for the map UI have been improved, making map navigation more efficient. Several display problems were resolved, including issues with Japanese and Chinese fonts not rendering correctly in monospace and minor transparency bugs related to other players' build plans.

- Schematics uploaded to the Steam Workshop no longer display blank thumbnails.
- Resolved issues with wait times not saving correctly in processors.
- Addressed numerous data patcher bugs.
- A server memory usage exploit has been fixed, enhancing server stability.
- Fixed maps not sorting properly in the UI.
- World processors and related blocks are no longer incorrectly healed by menders.
- Holding the payload pickup/drop key will no longer cause rate limit issues on servers.
- Corrected issues with status effects not scaling correctly within the user interface.
