People Playground is back in a working state with update 1.28, announced on 27 October 2026 after weeks of repair work by its developer, mestiez. The update adds native Linux support and new tools, but mods are gone for now. Valve has wiped all C# mods from the game's Steam Workshop, and modding will not return for at least two more months.
Why Mods Were Removed
The developer says some players were infected after using third-party mod loaders or older, "retrograded" versions of the game, and those uploads have been deleted. The latest version blocks all mods and C# code. The old modding system has been disabled for good and replaced with a new one built for an upcoming Lua mod loader.
The Workshop has reopened for contraptions only, which are safe to use through official means. Players are asked to avoid third-party loaders and older versions. Anyone who spots a "My Data" file on the Workshop should report it to Steam and not download it, because these files contain other users' personal data.

What's New in 1.28
Alongside many bug fixes, the update adds:
- Native Linux support, so far tested mainly on Debian
- Flipping a selection with the R key
- A beam repeater and a railgun
- A toggle that makes placed tools such as wires and pins invisible
- An option to make most destructible objects indestructible
- Faster map loading
Small patches followed up to version 1.28.37 on 31 October. Every change is listed in the official changelog.
