Power Network Tycoon Reaches Full Release
After more than two years in Early Access and four years development, Power Network Tycoon has officially launched its V1.0 update. The milestone marks the final release of the grid management simulation, bringing a substantial list of new features, quality-of-life improvements, and technical fixes. Players who have followed the project through its development phase can now experience the complete version.
New Gameplay Features
The V1.0 patch introduces several additions that expand the core simulation. Pedestrians now populate the city and react to environmental events such as rain and electrical faults. A new emergency oil drop option allows players to purchase fuel when funds are low, though this feature is disabled in hard mode.
Other notable changes include:
- A shortcut key (typically CTRL) combined with clicking a substation can now close tripped circuit breakers.
- Boost Points now offer an additional $10,000 and 1 Science Point as starting options.
- Players can place up to 3 power sources if the Energy Hub Substation is researched, removing the previous requirement to research power generator ranks for additional placements.
- Nuclear reactor startup has been simplified.
- Copper theft events occur less frequently.
- The 'look at fault occurring' camera mechanic has been removed from endgame gameplay.
Power Network and Simulation Adjustments
Several fixes target the simulation's accuracy and visual feedback. Ground fault calculations and modelling have been corrected. A dotted line now appears for all valid conductor connection points during construction. Inverters display their connections when moused over, clarifying how they link to other inverters or the EHS.
Mouseover interactions have been expanded. Hovering over the connection application button or build asset buttons highlights all existing poles. Selecting the Upgrade button highlights all upgradable assets. A bug where holding CTRL to repair a substation with a failed power source allowed improper repairs has been fixed.
UI and Quality of Life Improvements
Interface refinements aim to reduce player frustration. An "Are you sure?" popup now appears when deleting save games. Screen edge panning settings persist between sessions. Tutorial popups have additional spacing to prevent information overload, and tutorial videos are now stored locally rather than streamed.
The 'Hide UI' toggle in settings has been fixed to prevent some UI elements from remaining visible. Numerous other UI tweaks are included in the patch.
Graphics, Performance, and Audio
Ultra graphics settings now render details twice as far before culling meshes and textures. Performance improvements target road building and checking algorithms. Plant LODs no longer show mixed quality meshes simultaneously. Camera travel distance from the island has been corrected, and buildings on cliffsides now properly receive concrete support floors.
Audio adjustments include rebalanced settings levels and reduced music volume. A rare bug causing sounds to pause when 32 or more played simultaneously has been fixed. Gamepad vibration duration has also been corrected.
Additional Bug Fixes
Several persistent issues have been resolved:
- Capacitor banks now load correctly from saved games.
- Game loading with inverters properly stores paths between inverters and the EHS.
- The Forced Green-Hour mission no longer fails for very large cities.
- The "View Faults" setting no longer slows game speed for unnecessary cinematic effects when disabled.
Power Network Tycoon is now available in its complete V1.0 form across all platforms.
