Shapez 2 Advanced Tips: Master Your Factory

Managing a sprawling factory in Shapez 2 requires more than just basic know-how. As your production lines grow, efficiency and navigation become critical. This guide covers advanced techniques to streamline operations, from smart selection tools to performance optimization.

Smart Selection and Deselection

Efficiently managing large groups of buildings saves time. Instead of manually selecting each belt, use the connected selection feature. Select a belt, pipe, or their space equivalents and press [O]. This highlights everything connected, from the last space belt to the next. The right panel then shows a summary of selected buildings, types, and dimensions. You can also press [I] to clear any shapes currently being produced, which is useful for correcting mistakes.

For deselection, use [ALT] in the same way you use [SHIFT] for selection. Hold [ALT] and click a building or drag a box to remove it from your current selection. This gives you precise control over what you modify.

Navigation and Location Markers

Finding your way around a massive factory can be challenging. Press [N] to orient the camera north. If you lose your Vortex, press [H] to instantly return to it. You can also set a custom keybind for 'Jump Back' to return to your previous location after teleporting.

Location markers help you quickly jump to specific production chains. Press [L] or click the location symbol in the top right to create a marker at the center of your screen. Name it and assign a shape code by clicking a shape in any UI beforehand. Markers appear on the right edge of the screen; click one to teleport. Right-click a marker to edit its name, shape, or location, or delete it if no longer needed.

Performance Optimization

Large factories can strain lower-end hardware. One key setting is Shape Previews, which calculates what a shape will look like before it's built. This process is resource-intensive. In the General Settings menu, under Simulation Settings, you can adjust Shape Preview Speed. Lower values reduce performance impact but delay previews. You can also disable Shape Previews entirely if you don't need them.

Vortex Delivery and Shape Orientation

When delivering shapes to the Vortex, orientation does not matter. The Vortex accepts any shape as long as all parts are in the correct relative positions. Pins not on the top layer are also ignored. The only exception is for randomized goals in the Operator screen, which require precise orientation.

Hotkeys and Blueprint Management

Default hotkeys for Milestones, Shop, Jobs, and Operator screens are bound to [T], which opens the last used screen. You can assign individual hotkeys for faster access. Technologies/Shop is already bound to [Y], and Operator Level to [U]. Milestones, Jobs (Classic Mode), and Trades (Manufacture Mode) have no default hotkeys.

Organize blueprints into nested folders up to three levels deep. For example, create a 'Basic Functions' folder, then subfolders for 'Rotators' and 'Cutters'. Folders can be dragged onto your hotbar for quick access. You can also set a keybind to cycle through previously selected blueprints in your session. When placing a blueprint, click any building type in the selection panel to exclude it from placement, allowing you to customize blueprints on the fly.

These advanced tips help you manage larger factories with greater efficiency, from navigation to performance tuning. Mastering these tools will save time and reduce frustration as your production empire expands.
